Picked up during my stay in Montréal, not far from the Etay loft. The tape fragments came with part of a broken car cassette player (see picture), that I found sticking out of the ice and snow that was covering pavement and curb. The two short fragments were - with a little help from the web - surprisingly easy to identify as being by the Quebecois duo 'Crampe en Masse' (Mathieu Gratton and Ghyslain Dufresne). The longer and first of the two fragments is from 'J'aime pas ta face', from their 1999 album 'Roule toi par terre'.116.
Anglophonic pop. Shazam and Midomi [ nov. 24th, 2009 ] recognized "One sweet day", by Mariah Carey.115.
Longish strand of cassette tape found in the gutter, which contains (nothing but) parts of a radio interview (Radio Classique) with a CEO of the French luxury leather goods producer 'Lancel'.114.
Near the gate of the lycée Hector Berlioz I found three old Grundig reel to reel recorders, obviously formerly used in the school's language laboratories. One of them had a tape on it, with a little yellow sticker reading: "Textes de la pratique de l'espagnol en seconde. Hatier, Paris, 1972" (see picture). Mixtape, with a selection of anglophonic, french and italian pop. Songs on the tape included R.E.M.'s 'Everybody hurts' (from their album Automatic for the people); 'Under the bridge' (Red Hot Chili Peppers, from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik); Chris Isaak's Wicked Game; 'Le monde est stone', sung, I think, by Fabienne Thibeault; Frankie goes to Hollywood's 'The Power of Love' (from the album Welcome to the Pleasuredome); 'Against all odds' by Phil Collins, ...
